Summer Music Camp: Art & Peace
From August 5 to September 22, 2024, Delmas 32 was the scene of a beautiful musical adventure with the Art & Peace summer camp, organized by the Haiti Teach a Child Foundation (HTCF) in partnership with the Haiti New Jersey Chapter. This camp brought together about fifty young people aged 10 to 17, from various neighborhoods, including Delmas 32, Christ Roi, Fort National, and more.
Art & Peace offered participants not only a platform to develop their musical talents but also served as a powerful vector against juvenile delinquency. By creating a positive and creative environment, we succeeded in keeping these young people away from violence and harmful activities, thus fostering a culture of peace and harmony. Moreover, the camp was entirely free, with no fees charged to participants, and each day they received a nutritious meal, ensuring their well-being during this period.
The days were filled with music workshops, singing lessons, instrumental training sessions, as well as Bible study activities to enrich their minds and morals. A spelling course was also offered, enhancing their academic skills. The spirit of competition was fueled by a spelling bee,
where champion teams were awarded trophies and medals, while all finalists received gifts, cultivating camaraderie and encouragement.
On August 24, a memorable recital allowed participants to showcase their talents to the community, generating enthusiasm and pride among parents and youth. The closing on September 22 was marked by a grand concert, celebrating the talent and commitment of our young teens while strengthening bonds within the community.
We would like to express our sincere thanks to the partners who made this camp possible: The Gift of Music Foundation, Solutions S.A, the Embassy of Taiwan in Haiti, and New Jersey Haiti Partners. We also thank everyone who contributed in any way to the realization of this
project. Your support was essential and made this camp a true success. The foundation is also seeking partners who could support this free music school for underprivileged children and contribute to the reduction of juvenile delinquency in Haiti. Together, we can create a better future for our youth through music education and community engagement.
Art & Peace was more than just a camp; it was a place for meeting, learning, and sharing. Music is a powerful vector of peace and unity. Let’s continue together to inspire and open doors for the young talents of our community.
Musical Summer Camp starts on August 5th, 2024. Over 50 young kids are participating in this program and will have the opportunity to play these instruments. Special thanks to Jennifer Mitchell, Operations and Donor Support at the Gift of Music Foundation for their donations. Instruments were delivered on 7/28/24 by New Jersey-Haiti Partners Chapter President who had a chance to meet some of the HTCF team and a couple young musicians.
